If you have been to S.E Asian countries, you might remember this dip from somewhere. Dried salt and chilli dip is very popular in Cambodia as well. It is mainly used to accompany some sour or bitter green fruits that you may find in tropical countries/islands such as, guavas, tamarinds, mangoes, wood apples (google it! funny yummy fruit), gooseberries (Phyllanthus acidus), ambarellas, etc. Some would casually dip the sliced fruits in it and some prefer it in a form of "shake". In a plastic box, throw in the fruits and salt chilli dip, shake and enjoy!
It is delicious and quick to make. Before we start you may would like to read another blog post that I wrote a few months ago, why cambodia simply rock. Because the dip is so famous it is featured in that post.
Decided to skip checking that post and continue reading? You rebel you! :-)

Dried salt and chilli dip with guava fruit |
Ingredients:
salt (I prefer coarse)
white sugar
fresh chilli
seasoning salt (optional)
Directions:
Slice the chilli and add it to other ingredients. Use the pestle to crush everything together until it reaches your favourite consistency. It could be fine or still slightly coarse.
Mix well with a fork.

Bring out your favourite sour fruits when it is snack time. It is "Snacks:30" here too, I am off to my guavas and this dip.
Happy weekend! If you are heading out to S.E Asia or the Carribeans, keep your eyes peeled for the fruits mentioned in the top of this post and try it with this dip. You might (or might not) love it.
